Herne, Chrystal
(1883-1950)
Born in Dorchester, Massachusetts, Katherine Chrystal Herne began her career in 1899 acting in the plays of her father, James A. Herne. She never attained stardom, but she was a respected character actress excelling in roles requiring stature and imperiousness. She appeared in As a Man Thinks (1911), and was particularly well-received in the first U.S. production of W. Somerset Maugham's Our Betters (1917). In the 1920s, Herne's notable appearances included Expressing Willie (1924) and Craig's Wife (1925).
